Stories about Jesus - series 1 - John 3:1-16

Nicodemus [the man who made John 3:16 famous]

• A Pharisee v 1,2

• A ruler of the Jews

• A man of desperate need

• Confused about who Jesus was

  • A teacher come from God or God who has come to teach?

Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ…. v. 19 that is that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself.

- 2 Corinthians 5:18,19

No other but God/Jesus Himself could offer this salvation.

v3 - New birth explained - born again means “from above”

Not a physical birth, but a spiritual birth

How? v. 5

• Baptism - no

• Physical - no

• Word of God - yes

  • 1 Peter 1:23 “having been born again through the WORD OF GOD which lives and abides forever.”

  • Romans 10:17 “so faith comes by hearing, and HEARING BY THE WORD OF GOD.”

v. 8 - 16 Three powerful examples of faith:

Wing — Moses — Love, God loves but saves by grace

For by grace are you saved through faith.
